I think besides Joy’s big heart, is her style! She and I have very similar taste when it comes to fashion, and it was only inevitable that I would ask her to do a style post here on the blog.
So without further adieu….
Joy from Frock Files :
I’m really excited to be here at Laid Off Mom to share a few fashionable things that I’ve recently fallen in love with.
Since I turned 29 this year, I’ve been looking out for pieces that will last me for years to come. I live in Boston, which is a pretty preppy city, so I’ve been dressing in classic pieces for several years now. My 30-something wardrobe won’t be much different, except that I’d like to focus on selecting more investment pieces and fewer cheap and trendy ones. In other words: hello cashmere coat; goodbye Forever 21 heart-patterned jacket!
If you’ve visited my blog, you might already be sick of hearing me profess my love of autumn, but I’m about to do it again: this is my very favorite time of year. There’s something about the crisp weather, the warm food and drink, and the emergence of fluffy sweaters and boots that makes me happy even as the days get shorter.
Fall fashion staples will never go out of style. A good pair of boots and a warm coat are pieces that will get you through countless autumns. I live in a sweater dress at this time of year and have been hunting for a great pair of knit socks to peek out over the tops of my boots. And since coats and scarves cover up wrists (for wearing bracelets) and necks (for wearing scarves), let the shine happen at your ears to brighten up your whole face!
I’ll be posting more autumnal inspiration over at Frock Files, where you can look forward to a tutorial from Louise in the coming months. Thanks, Louise, for letting me stop by to chat with your lovely readers!

Gorgeous. Come style me please, Joy!
I’d love to!
Right?!! Love! XO
Louise, I think you picked the perfect person to do a fall fashion post! Joy, that coat is gorgeous… it’s the one you have on order, right?!? And those earrings are beautiful! I love how they are neutral yet unique. I am typically a silver person but lately I’ve really been loving gold, especially for fall!
Thank you, Steph! You’re right; that’s my new coat. It’s absolutely as beautiful in person — the lining is a rich burgundy as well, just a shade lighter than the cashmere exterior. I’m in love. And those earrings are by an Etsy artist I’ve purchased from before — just as sparkly in real life.
Hehe, I know!! J is freggin awesome!! =)
Hi ladies!! I love that hair. Wonder how I could get my flat locks to do that. And that coat is gorgeous. Great tailoring! XO, MJ
Two words, MJ: DRY SHAMPOO. Seriously! My flat hair does amazing things when I have dry shampoo in it.
Now, I’m wishing I didn’t cut my hair, hehe! XO
I cannot wait for Fall to hit California! It’s still in the high 90′s most days where I am. Those boots & grey socks look so cozy!
Soon, I’m sure! We’ll all be freezing with bare trees and you’ll have lovely, blissful fall weather!
Katie, I feel like the tide has turned! It’s been a lil’ more chilly lately…scarf chilly here in SD, how bout u guys? XO
Joy is so stylish, I love it.
Great post!
Right?!! Love her style! XO
