City Girl Gone Camping

Bonafide city girl right here.

At 31, I have to tell you…I’ve never gone camping…ever.

Never slept under the stars, jumped in a lake, hiked in the woods, or cooked a meal over a campfire.  Until recently, I had my first ever s’more!  And considering that I’m the biggest chocoholic, this is ridiculous right?!

Growing up, my dad was in the navy and he was away a lot.  My mom worked all the time, and she was an indoor girl herself…and “roughing it” was not what my mother would call a vacation.

Tonight we’re driving up with 3 other families and I’ll be able to officially call myself a nature girl =)

We’ve been getting ready this past week with all our supplies, food and toiletries for the trip.  I never realized how much you need for camping…it’s like packing a whole house – cooking supplies, tent, linens, etc…

And last week, the hubbs gave me a lecture about not packing too much…telling me that I couldn’t bring our large beat up suitcase…

Boo!

Hahaha, he knows me all too well!!

I was able to fit the girls’ clothes and my clothes in one duffle, so that’s a big accomplishment right?  But no blowdryer, curling iron or coffeemaker?…oh this will be fun!

As much as I’m a “city girl,” I’m actually really excited to go on this trip.  To unplug, and enjoy “life.”  Looking forward for time to slow, and to actually be able to clear my head…to star gaze and eat some S’MORES!

Not really looking forward to the bathroom facilities though, especially with the girls…it will be interesting for sure!  And, no makeup right?! haha, grrreat!

I’ll take a ton of pics and be back Monday morning with stories to tell!  Wish me luck that I don’t run into a bear, or worse….I actually end up putting my makeup on and driving to the nearest hotel for a blowdryer & wif-fi!

Cheers to camping!

                                                                                         xo, Louise

*While I’m away, enjoy a yummy S’mores recipe on the blog tomorrow!

    • Yes, the hubbs is funny! haha! I just like to be prepared, that’s all! =P Will let u know how it goes Clare! XO

  1. Have fun! We use to camp in tents way back when, but we slowly upgraded to pop-up campers, and then full on travel trailers. We still cook on the fire though, you can’t beat that taste. You HAVE to make mountain pies while you’re there, so much better than smores. Just take bread, butter & some toppings (pie filling, cheese, pizza, sauce & pepperoni’s… etc) Get one of those mountain pie makers, like this, then you butter your bread, butter side goes on the maker side, filling in the middle & then cook it over the fire – sooooo good.

    • That’s actually on the hubbs’ to-buy list…an rv! I can’t wait for all the adventures! And those mountain pies look soo yummy! Its too late to go out and get one, but I will def try that for next time we go! Thx for the suggestion Mel =) XO

  2. Best of luck, Louise! Camping is definitely a lot of work. I’ve only gone on a few overnight camping trips, but admittedly it was fun! The campfire and roasted marshmallows are my favorite part!

  3. Yeah you end up having to take a lot to go camping, lol. There’s no kitchen, and if you’re far out of town, then there are no restaurants either. Don’t forget ice and firewood.

And yes, usually the bathroom facilities leave something to be desired. But when Kyle and I went camping at Bryce Canyon, the bathrooms were so luxurious. It was really weird. And the sinks had warm water!

I can’t believe you’ve never gone camping. Just put your hair up in a ponytail the whole time and it will be fine! :)

I’m sure you will have so much fun and find the relaxation you need because that is what camping is all about. getting away from it all, getting in touch with nature, clearing your head, relaxing, etc.

have fun! Tell us all about it when you get back :)

    ~Lisha

    • I will have to check out Bryce Canyon…I’m really not excited about the bathrooms at all! And I think ponytails are def in order =P Looking forward to this trip, and I’ll tell u all about it come Monday! XO
