Museum it up!
Yesterday was a rainy, gloomy day here in San Diego and I felt like doing cartwheels in my scarf! I have been waiting for chilly weather to hit us, and this weekend my rain dances paid off! =)
We were supposed to take our holiday card pics at the park yesterday, but the rain changed our plans. Which we didn’t mind at all!
We decided to pay a visit to the Natural History Museum and check out the CHOCOLATE Exhibit! Kids are free during the month of October, and walking in Balboa Park during a gloomy day is always a must in SD!
Being the history and chocolate buff that I am…this was right up my alley! Here are some of the historical chocolate ads that I fell in love with…
I absolutely heart vintage ads. We have several framed vintage French ads throughout our home, and if I could, I would’ve taken these home with us too!
What I love about the Nat Museum are the interactive exhibits they have. The girls got to learn about where chocolate comes from, and there were things they could touch…everywhere! A must for any museum that allows children!
We’ve gone to The Nat before and everytime we go, the girls love it. And it gives us some bonding time as a family.
We also got to see the Water exhibit and a 40 minute 3D film about flying Monsters, which was about dinosaurs…Annalise’s fave!
I loved watching Mia’s reactions during the film!…trying to touch the dinosaurs onscreen, giggling, and saying her “oohs” and “awwws.” I was in awe just watching her…seeing her innocence and her wonder at the film…brought a smile to my face.
During the chocolate exhibit, the smell of chocolate was everywhere! If they were trying to entice us to buy chocolate, it sure worked! We didn’t end up buying the chocolate at the museum. It was far too overpriced, and there were too many people waiting in line in a small shop…not my cup of tea. So we headed over to Extraordinary Desserts in Hillcrest instead.
There, we indulged in our Chocolate!
This was gone in minutes!
We had a great day exploring the Nat Museum and filling our tummies!
What’s your favorite thing to do on a rainy day?

What a fabulous exhibit! I love when museums work hard to make learning fun. A friend of mine works at the children’s museum here in Boston, and she’s constantly working to bring in interesting, fun exhibits. I’m so glad you finally got your rainy weather, too. Good luck on your busy day today! xo
It was really a cute exhibit! I didn’t show you guys, but the historical facts and artifacts they had regarding chocolate was awesome! While the girls were running around, I was eating up every bit of info! They had these cute tea cup sets and utensils JUST for drinking chocolate! It was amazing! I gotta show you! Good luck on all yer errands too J! XO
I am totally with you celebrating the gloomy weather! We are up in LA and couldn’t have been happier to have a little fall weather and a break from the heat.
And your post made me soooo hungry!
Right?!! It was soo great! hehe, that cake was really too good to eat! XO
That chocolate exhibit sounds like so much fun! Love those vintage ads. The chocolate cake looks (almost) too good to eat!
The exhibit was FUN! I heart the museum in general, so I’m biased…but it was great! And that chocolate cake…too DIE for!! amazing! XO
