Art to Inspiration – Healing Yoga with Aarti

For the month of July, Supal chose this great piece from Smita Jacob of Hogger & Co.

I looked at this piece for a really long time because I really wanted to grasp what the meaning of this photo was to me….

authenticity

being true to one’s self

freedom

confidence

not following the crowd

identity

were all the thoughts and feelings that came to my mind.

And I was immediately reminded of a biopic on Coco Chanel that I watched last year.  “Coco Before Chanel.”  The film spoke to me on many levels.  Not only did it involve my love of fashion & history, but it was the story about Coco & her opposition to following the crowd and being true to herself and her identity.  Something that I saw immediately in this month’s art to inspiration piece, and something that I relate to on a personal level.

I’ve always felt like the odd girl out.  Not wanting to do what everyone else did, just cuz it was the popular thing to do.  Finding my own pathway, and always following my heart.

So for this month’s art to inspiration, I decided to put together an outfit inspired by Coco Chanel, her simplistic design aesthetic & the colors that I saw from Smita’s piece.

Hope you all have a safe and fun Fourth of July!  And if you have a moment, please wish Miss Smita Jacob a wonderful ::Happy Birthday:: tomorrow!

  3. This is really cool! How neat that this photo and what it evoked reminded you of Coco and that documentary (which I would like to see, btw!). This outfit is beautiful and I love that it’s reminiscent of both Coco’s style and Smita’s photo!
